London-based Savages displayed range and rage that went through the roof at The Independent Thursday with No Bra attached as the featured act. The all-female post-punk rockers have made quite the impression in 2013 so far: They made a big slash at SXSW in March, and the quartet are finishing their US leg at Coachella before heading back across the pond to perform around the UK and Europe over the next few months. And this has all been accomplished before Savages have dropped their first album.
Jehnny Beth is a stoic force on stage, constantly projecting strength by flashing fierce, wide eyes and holding traditional masculine body language. It’s refreshing to see a group that successfully flips gender stereotypes with ease.
The first album from Savages, Silence Yourself, will be released May 7 in the US.
