Brett Dennen brought his “Smoke and Mirrors” tour to Santa Barbara’s newly renovated Lobero Theatre last week. Smoke and Mirrors is his fifth album, which was released in October 2013, and features an array of warm acoustic melodies mixed with an upbeat pop flavor. The Santa Barbara crowd filled the intimate theatre to give the Sierra Nevada resident and his band a warm reception. The vocal details and smooth harmonies make for an enjoyable easy flowing vibe. At times the was crowd was out of their seats and dancing. Brett’s use of high pitch, gentle phrasing kept the mood in the theatre upbeat and grooving.

Foy Vance opened the show and played solo acoustic with delightful tidbits of comedy sprinkled in between songs.

Notes For Notes is a Santa Barbara-based charity that provides youngsters with FREE access to music instruments, instruction, and recording studio environments so that music may become a profoundly positive influence in their lives.

The organization hosted a stacked Benefit Show December 6th that featured Jimmy Vivino & the Basic Cable Band (Conan O’Brien’s house band), Seymour Duncan, Slash, Robert Randolph, Alan Parsons, Don Felder & more.

Chimaway Lopez, Notes for Notes’ first Hall of Fame inductee who is now 15 years old, stepped it up while sharing the stage-seasoned professionals. All the musicians sign a guitar and held a ‘live’ auction during the show — and the guitar sold for $8000.00.
