Celebrating 14 years as a band/collective/pseudo-religious experience, The Polyphonic Spree will be anointing the sacred ground of Slim’s this Wednesday night with support from Sarah Jaffe. Twenty-two members strong, the band’s current lineup is in the middle of its Summer Tour 2014 and on the verge of releasing a remix EP, following its completion. Originally formed in July 2000 as the product of lead singer Tim DeLaughter’s vision to reproduce a “sound he dreamt about”, the band’s unique take on choral rock and theatrical performance art hit the ground running rather quickly. Its sound, featuring multiple levels of instrumentation between flute, trumpet, French horn, trombone, violin, viola, cello, percussion, piano, guitars, bass, drums, electronic keyboards, EWI and a full choir, is one that has inspired nearly every ensemble act over the past decade. With five full-length albums, three EPs, several film scores, as well as countless festival appearances and world tours, the Polyphonic Spree are an inimitable tour de force, a bucket-list band whose live show is truly inspiring. With this being the only Bay Area stop on the West Coast leg of its tour, it’s not a show worth missing. -Molly Kish
