S. Carey creates music that sparkles in wondrous minimalism, comfortable in setting a meditative state of mind that morphs into pure inspiration. Add IN the song-long slow motion crescendos, and it’s no surprise to learn Carey is the drummer, pianist and band director for Bon Iver.
In a recent article exploring Justin Vernon’s influence on contemporary music, I wrote “He’s an integral part of the group [Bon Iver], and he’s reemerged on his own this year with his new record, Range of Light. But for fans of Bon Iver, look toward “Fire-scene” to get a sense of what S. Carey has to offer.” When listening to this song, it becomes quite apparent how integral Carey is to the indie behemoth’s deep, layered sound.
