Portola took over SF’s Pier 80 once again last month for its fifth year with a new footprint and slightly different creative direction. For this installment, the Swedes dominated the lineup with Swedish House Mafia playing the first of only two announced shows in 2026, Robyn returning to the Bay Area after a seven-year hiatus, Tove Lo debuting her new album Estrus to go with its stage production and Zara Larsson wrapping up her “Midnight Sun Tour” at the two-day event.

This year’s lineup leaned heavily into pop but was balanced out by a decent amount of house favorites and legacy acts. The heavily anticipated return of Dog Blood featuring Boyz Noize and Skrillex ended Saturday with an electronic assault on the senses after Groove Armada rocked the warehouse and DJ Shadow honored the 30th anniversary of his seminal debut Endtroducing….. that ranks among Rolling Stone’s 500 greatest albums of all time. Mike D & 5D tested out their new material that was spliced with Beastie Boys hits while Fatboy Slim, who was also celebrating three decades of his own debut LP titled Better Living Through Chemistry, tore up the Crane Stage on Day 1 in true legendary fashion prior and set the stage for former Spice Girl-turned-DJ Melanie C (aka Sporty Spice) to put on a nostalgic dance party subsequently.

The vibes remained high on Sunday, with energetic sets from Channel Tres and Ben UFO kicking things up a notch early on. SG Lewis delivered a rare live performance that got the crowd moving, and Daphni came out hot in the Ship Tent with easily one of the weekend’s most corpse-reviving moments. Then it was time for trance daddy Tiësto, who drew a giant audience to the Warehouse over an extended 90-minute set following a breakout pop performance from Slovak singer-songwriter/dancer Adéla. And of course we would be remiss to mention the second Portola appearance for equine princess horsegiirL that provided some strong female representation on the Day 2 bill.

Portola Music Festival 2026 - Swedish House Mafia

Swedish House Mafia

Four Tet closed down the Warehouse with arguably the most anticipated set of the weekend, debuting his immersive lightning design by Ed Warren and spinning favorites along with brand-new tracks, one of which was a remix of Turnstile’s “Look Out for Me” off their Grammy-winning album Never Enough. Die-hards and festival attendees catching Kieran Hebden on the decks for their very first time got lost in his set that euphorically put a bow on the weekend and further solidified Four Tet’s legacy among Bay Area electronic music fans.

Not long after the final notes were played, rumors swirled about whether or not Portola will be back in another 12 months for its sixth edition. Even with a solid roster of artists for 2026, it can’t be overlooked that tickets took longer than in previous years to sell out. Whether there was any correlation or not, we noticed a lot more attention was directed at sponsored activations and increasing the space of the VIP sections, and while you couldn’t help but notice as well that the demographics seemed to be much more concerned with capturing content than during the fest’s first four iterations, Portola still remained true to its roots in the end.

With that in mind, we hope our favorite Bay Area music festival will continue the tradition next year. Only time will tell, though if this was goodbye after the past five years, we can definitely say that Portola went out with quite a bang.

Portola party people … can you dig it?!?!

What we are about to say might be hard to believe, but after making its debut back in 2021, your favorite two-day Bay Area music festival is celebrating five years this September.

And after the fourth edition saw LCD Soundsystem, Christina Aguilera, Dom Dolla, Peggy Gou, The Chemical Brothers (DJ set) and Moby (Live) lead the pack at SF’s Pier 80 with Anti Up (Chris Lake x Chris Lorenzo), The Prodigy, MAU P and Underworld on the undercard (read our festival review here), Goldenvoice has put together another strong lineup that once again leans heavily electronic but also touches upon a few other genres like pop, rock, hip-hop, R&B, funk and soul.

Portola’s fifth installment will follow a similar sonic formula since its earliest years. Robyn and Swedish House Mafia have landed roles as the event’s two headliners, while Dog Blood’s appearance will mark Skrillex’s and Boys Noize’s first joint performance together in seven years. And of course there’s Tiësto (in the warehouse), Zara Larsson and Four Tet all on Day 2, which should draw big crowds to the City’s largest cargo terminal.

Other acts on the 2026 roster that are worth shining a light on here include Fatboy Slim, Soulwax, Parcels, Prospa, Kettama, Skepta, Tove Lo, Mochakk, Fcukers, Max Styler, Overmono, Mike D 5D (featuring Mike D of Beastie Boys), Marlon Hoffstadt, horsegiirL, Groove Armada, Tricky, SG Lewis (Live), Underscores, Ninajirachi, DJ Shadow (celebrating the 30th anniversary of his 1996 debut LP Endtroducing…..), Kelela, Daphni, Bassvictim, Channel Tres, Melanie C (DJ set), ADÉLA, ear, Gelli Haha and Mind Enterprises. Plus, there will be Despacio all weekend long for those of you who just can’t get enough of the custom-built, 50,000-watt audiophile sound system that James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), brothers David and Stephen Dewaele (2manydjs/Soulwax), and audio engineer John Klett designed more than a decade ago. See more details above to find out who else is performing.

Portola passes will first be available via a loyalty pre-sale for previous attendees starting this Monday, June 1st at 12 p.m. PT, but you must register here before the general public begins Tuesday, June 2nd at 12 p.m. PT. Portola Music Festival 2026 - Sunday set times

UPDATE (August 27th): Portola’s fifth anniversary is right around the corner, and your 2026 set times are here to get you dancin’ to the beat a whole month early. That said, there will be some tough choices to make on Saturday, with Fcukers on the Pier Stage going up against Mike D 5D and Groove Armada in the 4:40-4:45 p.m. range before DJ Shadow and Tove Lo perform within 10 minutes of each other at 5:30 and 5:40 p.m. It won’t get any easier as Sunday winds down when Swedish House Mafia, Parcels and Four Tet all overlap by 9:30 p.m. Check out the schedule above to find out what your biggest conflict will be, and if you’re itching to go this year, two-day passes and single-day tickets are still available here while supplies last!
