BottleRock announces 2018 roster with Bruno Mars, The Killers & Muse booked as headliners

BottleRock - 2018 lineup

BottleRock Napa Valley //
Napa Valley Expo – Napa, CA
May 25th-27th, 2018 //

We’re one week into the New Year, and festival organizers across the country are just starting to unveil their 2018 lineups.

If last week’s Coachella lineup announcement didn’t do much for you, BottleRock Napa Valley has made its case this Memorial Day weekend with a bill that once again features not one, but two rock headliners, much like the 2017 installment saw with Foo Fighters, Maroon 5 and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, which proved to be one of Petty’s before his sudden death. Yet this time, it will be Bruno Mars, The Killers and Muse leading the way in late May.

Including the three aforementioned headliners, more than 80 artists and bands will descend upon downtown Napa for the three-day festival’s sixth edition. Other noteworthy acts listed on the poster are The Chainsmokers, Halsey, Snoop Dogg, Incubus, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Head and the Heart, Billy Idol, Thievery Corporation, Phantogram, The Revivalists, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Bleachers, Mike D (DJ set), E-40 and St. Paul and The Broken Bones to name a few. BottleRock’s signature Williams-Sonoma Culinary Stage, meanwhile, will also return to the Napa Valley Expo as various celebrity chefs team up with different Hollywood stars, musicians, bands, athletes and more for some cool live cooking demonstrations.

Tickets go on sale this Tuesday, January 9th at 10 a.m. PT here and start at $349 before going up to $359 for a three-day GA pass. VIP passes will be sold for as low as $749 (and as high as $799), and a three-day platinum pass is now a whopping $3,900.

Rubblebucket: October 15th (WED) @ The Independent // Buy Tickets

Rubblebucket’s new output, Survival Sounds, is an appropriate name for a very real reason. Lead singer Annakalmia Traver is “doing great now. Better than ever. I’m 100% cancer free” according to a recent interview with thegirlsare. When we saw Rubblebucket late last year, they delivered an inspirational show while Traver was in the midst of treatment. This is an update we are very happy to hear.

Contest ends Wednesday, October 15th at Noon.

J. Roddy Walston and The Business: October 17th (FRI) @ The Independent // Buy Tickets

Let’s look to our review of J. Roddy Walston and The Business at the Independent late last year for reasoning to head to Divis on Friday night: J. Roddy and the Business brought pure rock and roll from start to finish. There was no messing around, no keyboards, no genre jumping songs or other distractions. Just fire-driven energy fueling the set, playing old and new songs in his signature style.

Contest ends Friday, October 17th at Noon.

Sinkane: October 19th (SUN) @ The Independent // Buy Tickets

Sinkane has worked with the likes of Caribou, Yeasayer and of Montreal, and he blew our collective minds as the band leader of the Atomic Bomb! tribute to William Onyeabor that starred David Byrne earlier this year. His new album Mean Love is an enjoyable listen — this is a nice option for a Treasure Island Music Festival after-show.

Contest ends Friday, October 17th at Noon.

J. Roddy Walston and the Business bring some Old-Fashioned Rock n’ Roll

J-Roddy

Photos & Writing by Sam Heller

Let’s face it, it’s been a long time since you’ve rock and rolled, or your life was saved by rock and roll, or you’ve wanted to rock and roll all night and party everyday. The fact is, you just want to hear some of that rock and roll music. For a genre of music that seems as dead as punk, rock and roll is still the heartbeat of almost everything we treat our ears to. Lucky for us, there is a small Baltimore based band that plays our favorite past time genre the proper way; loud, rowdy and old fashion, in the best way possible.

J. Roddy Walston & The Business‘ infectious sound filled the veins of a comfortably packed house at the Independent Thursday October 10th. Walston’s heavy hand, hammering on a vintage Yamaha up-right piano is an obvious nod to the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis and Ian Stewart. A humble J. Roddy was genuinely taken back by the turn out, curiously asking the crowd how they heard about his band.

Without hesitation, J. Roddy and the Business brought pure rock and roll from start to finish. There was no messing around, no keyboards, no genre jumping songs or other distractions. Just fire-driven energy fueling the set, playing old and new songs in his signature style. “Our most listened to song” belted Roddy, a Bill Carlisle cover of “Sally Let Your Bangs Hang Down,” and the first song of a three song encore. The bonus track on their new album entitled “I Think Of You,” was the only moments the audience was given to catch their breath. In layman’s terms, PURE ROCK AND FUCKING ROLL!

Essential Tremors, is their most recent release, and if you want to hear the best rock and roll album of the year, give it a spin. Yea, Best Rock Album of the Year.

J. Roddy Walston and the Business deliver a live concert experience that every music lover needs to see once in their lifetime. However, in most cases, one time will simply not suffice, as this act brings heavy, Southern-influenced rock on a nightly basis. These American rockers have been burning down stages across this great land for over a decade, constantly upping their game with Walston’s devastatingly brutal stage presence. The lead man pounds away on an upright piano, refusing to compromise for keyboards while touring behind their latest release on ATO Records, Essential Tremors. Gringo Starr will start things off on this night at the Independent, so get down early for worship at the ‘Church of Rock’.
