Make Music Pasadena announces 2016 lineup

Make Music Pasadena 2016 lineup

Make Music Pasadena //
Downtown Pasadena – Pasadena, CA
June 11th, 2016 //

Back for its ninth edition this summer, Make Music Pasadena will once again feature a lineup of emerging artists from all across the world.

Taking over the streets of Pasadena for one Saturday in June, the festival has booked Atlas Genius, Bear Hands, The Mowgli’s, Small Black, Nahko and Medicine for the People, Papa, James Supercave and Profiles to perform this year.

Produced and organized by the Old Pasadena Management District and Playhouse District Association, Make Music Pasadena has boasted such notable acts as Grimes, GROUPLOVE, Matt and Kim, Warpaint, Best Coast, Ra Ra Riot, Surfer Blood, YACHT, Robert DeLong and many more.

Hailing from South Australia, Atlas Genius will serve as this year’s headliner more than three years after their debut LP When It Was Now peaked at No. 34 on the U.S. Billboard 200. Since then, the Adelaide duo comprised of brothers Keith Jeffery (lead vocals, guitar) and Michael Jeffery (drums) has released its second studio album Inanimate Objects and embarked on a 2016 spring tour that wraps up in LA at the El Rey Theatre on April 30th.

The free, non-profit event attracts roughly 50,000 attendees each year, running from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. across five different stages and inside 30-plus venues spanning 20 city blocks. Located just 15 minutes from downtown LA, MMP is said to be modeled after Paris’ Fête de la Musique, an annual celebration of music that also takes place in June.

More than 150 bands are expected to play this year, with a multitude of genres — from world music to post-punk to indie rock — being represented onstage in the City of Roses.

Breakbot: February 13th (FRI) @ Mezzanine // SOLD OUT
French producer, DJ and member of the Ed Banger Records family, Breakbot has officially sold out Mezzanine this Friday night, and we’ve got our hands on guest list spots courtesy of Beautiful Buzzz. Most recognized for his nu-disco remixes, Breakbot has infused hits from Royksopp, Digitalism, Chromeo and more with his signature French house flare, gaining him notoriety amongst large-scale producers and artists across the electronic stratosphere with many clamoring for the opportunity to have him rework their material. With Friday’s show marking Breakbot’s last tour stop before he takes to the high seas in Miami on Holy Ship! 2015, this will be the last chance he has to perfect a set before performing at one of the most highly-anticipated EDM events of the year. In other words, this will be a raging warm-up and a proper sold-out send-off in the hardest-partying city by the bay.

Contest ends Friday, February 13th at Noon.

Hundred Waters: February 14th (SAT) @ Great American Music Hall // BUY TICKETS
OWSLA recording artists Hundred Waters bring their experimental, indie-rock flavored electronica to the Great American Music Hall this Saturday night. Fresh off their performance on the “Late Show With David Letterman”, the group continues their spring tour across North America in support of its second album The Moon Rang Like a Bell, with the LP’s lead single “Show Me Love” appearing in Coca-Cola’s Super Bowl ad earlier this month. Kicking off what is shaping up to be a packed tour schedule leading into the upcoming festival months, the band shows no sign of slowing down, riding off the critical acclaim and success they’ve garnered since forming three years ago. Be sure to catch them now while you’re still able to experience their “must-see live performance” in an intimate venue like the GAMH.

Contest ends Friday, February 13th at Noon.

Papa with The Tambo Rays //
The Independent — San Francisco
May 23rd, 2014 (Friday) //

Darren Weiss and Danny Preasant formed their band, Papa, in New York City circa 2008, but they have been friends, however, since childhood. This fact might explain their captivating on-stage chemistry and passion. They’ve toured with Temper Trap, Lord Huron, and Cold War Kids, and their debut album, Tender Madness, received quite a few favorable reviews with comparisons being drawn to Foster the People and The Killers, while retaining a raw punk vibe. Papa will be joined at The Independent by San Francisco chill-pop group The Tambo Rays this Friday. -Krystal Beasley
