Three new mixes this week including a mix from SF local 8Ball x Josh Damon of Space Cowboys, the latest FACT mix from shoegaze band Slowdive, and a Beatles vs. Beastie Boys mashup tribute from Wick-It the Instigator.
8Ball x Josh Damon — Spring Forward Lean Back
Our first mix is from 8Ball x Josh Damon, SF local and one of the founding members of Space Cowboys. Though I’ve usually caught his breaks-focused sets around the Bay Area, I’m also glad I checked this one out. A chill two-hour mix with an outstanding selection of tracks and remixes from the likes of Ginuwine(!), Diplo, The Streets, Skream, Drake, GRiZ, Poolside, Sango, Ryan Hemsworth, and Amerie. This has been on repeat for me all week.
FACT mix 430 — Slowdive
Slowdive is a early-90’s shoegaze band from Reading, England that has recently reformed and is hitting the festival circuit this summer. This mix feels like a palette cleanser from the usual mixes I’ve posted here. Tracks from Sonic Youth, Can, This Mortal Coil, The Cure, Spiritualized, Syd Barrett, Yo La Tengo, Brian Eno, The Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine and more are included.
Beatles vs. Beastie Boys — (Wick-it Mashup Tribute)
We end with a (mini) mix from Nashville-based Wick-it the Instigator. Released this week as a mashup tribute of the Beatles and Beastie Boys, this four-song mix is more than just slapping a Beastie Boys acapella over the Beatles. Wick-it adds guitar solos, keys, and recreates bass lines to elevate this to a proper tribute. If you like this, check out his Quentin Tarantino themed remix project “Grindhouse Basterds” that can be found here.
