DMX exhibits plenty of bark, almost some bite in SF

Mezzanine – San Francisco
June 18th, 2016 //

DMX, aka Dark Man X himself, visited the Bay Area last month to headline Mezzanine on a Friday night with local DJ Big Von and SF hip-hop group Legends Live Forever. As soon as I found out I was going, I could already hear Earl Simmons’ low growls exploding into loud barking inside my head. The barking got louder as the show neared and turned into yells by the time my friends and I walked into the venue.

When we entered Mezzanine the room was almost full, so we went right to the back bar to avoid the last-minute drink rush. Walking through the crowd to find any space that would allow for free movement is always difficult with a drink in each hand, but we found one, 15 feet just right of the stage.

Thirty minutes after claiming our spot and pounding our beers, the lights dimmed and you could hear X’s infamous dog growl. I remember hearing “It’s Dark” and “Hell Is Hot in 1998” when I was much younger and thought, “Wow, this guy is on something else!” (which would also be proven later on by his many run-ins with authority), but even then, I knew DMX was one of a kind.

DMX

There is no deeper growl in hip-hop than DMX’s. At the age of 45, his gritty sound that can suddenly become melodic has long been a style to be reckoned with in the East Coast rap scene. After more than two decades in the game and a number of hits in his catalog, the Yonkers, N.Y., native came out swinging at Mezzanine. He asked us, “Where the Hood At?” and of course, made us act a fool. He even made me wish I had my own dirt bike when his signature “Ruff Ryders Anthem” came on.

But what I didn’t expect was Simmons asking the crowd to join him in prayer. “OK, D. I’ll give this a try,” I quietly thought to myself. He thanked the Lord for all his blessings and for being in SF when he noticed someone in the crowd was “mocking” him. I could quickly tell this was going to be a once-in-a-lifetime moment as he called out the person in front of everyone there, telling him that he would “knock his ass out in the name of the Lord!” As serious as X was at that instant, it was hard not to find his threat a little bit funny.

As a Catholic myself, I had to give it to DMX for using his platform to promote positivity even if not all of the crowd was into it, which probably led to the brief moment of confrontation. Fortunately, nothing escalated before he asked the crowd my favorite question of the night: “What DO these bitches want from me?!?!”

DMX

After thanking the man up above and free styling gospel in between his anthems, Simmons decided to do some push-ups — 50 I believe. Yes, in the middle of his set. Maybe he knew the lights would shine on the grey hairs of his chin and wanted to show the crowd that he can still keep up, but he was so full of life that he did it with relative ease. He rocked the mic — and the crowd — with anthem after anthem, some gospel and a little preaching all while doing it over a bevy of backing tracks. There were no backup vocalists, pre-recorded ad libs or hype men. Just DMX, in the flesh.

Regardless of all the turmoil and questionable decisions Simmons has made over the course of his career, he is still giving it his all and you can feel it in his performance. You can tell he takes his religion seriously as it was present throughout the show. He genuinely wanted the people in attendance to be righteous and do good to others, which I could support. Though acknowledging he has 14 children with another on the way and still trying to have more that night reassured me that The Dog will always be, well … The Dog.

Nevertheless, I believe DMX’s faith is good for him. He knows he’s in a position that can do some good while still providing a fun time for his fans. And he made sure we knew that he loved us as his fans, just like he loves his women.

A Club Called Rhonda feat. DJ Harvey //
Mezzanine – San Francisco
July 1st, 2016 //

Described by THUMP years ago as a “carnival or debauchery,” A Club Called Rhonda (ACCR) is a group who served as a key component in the revival of both disco and house music in Los Angeles’ nightlife scene. With deep care put into each party, ACCR has made a name for itself by bringing sonic and visual artists together to create something different at each event.

This Friday in SF, ACCR will bring its self-proclaimed pursuit of “PASSION. PLEASURE. POSSIBILITY.” to Mezzanine, with the incomparable DJ Harvey headlining the event.

DJ Harvey is your favorite DJ’s favorite DJ. Having spent the past 35 years traveling the world as one of the hottest DJs to every grace a turntable, he has generated a cult following built on seamless, unstoppable house and disco sets year after year. Though DJ Harvey is a common visitor to Public Works in SF, this year he will be joining the ACCR team to put on what will undoubtedly be a highlight event for Mezzanine’s already-stellar year.

Supporting DJ Harvey will be Andy Butler, a member of disco-house group Hercules & Love Affair. Tickets are available for $25-30, or you could win a pair of tickets by submitting your full name and email below.

Contest ends this Friday at 3 p.m.

June 18th, 2016 //

Hip-hop legend, actor and Ruff Ryder for life, DMX (born Earl Simmons) has persevered through several challenges in both his personal life and professional career over the past decade. Amidst it all, he has continued to maintain an ever-growing body of work through music and acting, as well as found a higher calling as a transitional deacon in the Christian Church since 2012.

Still impacting the shape and sound of contemporary hip-hop, DMX has been perceived as a stylistic innovator and groundbreaking artist even 25 years after he got into the rap game. He has directly influenced some of the biggest names in the industry with his signature style and impassioned performances and moreover, is currently in the middle of putting the finishing touches on his eighth studio album, which is rumored to feature Kanye West and Dr. Dre.

Bringing his intense flows and catalog of aggressive hip-hop (aka “X gon’ bring it”) to SF this Saturday, DMX will be supported at Mezzanine by Big Von and Legends Live Forever on what is a dream bill of hip-hop nostalgia.

So, are you going to be there to catch the pit bull alpha and Ruff Ryder patriarch in all of his snarling glory? Tickets are available for $40 (GA) and $60 (VIP), or you could win a pair of tickets by submitting your full name and email below.

Bob Moses reset electronic music standards in SF

Bob MosesPhotos by Lisette Worster // Written by Molly Kish //

Bob Moses //
Mezzanine – San Francisco
May 26th, 2016 //

Most live music fans at some point will utter the overgeneralized critique, “a band is only as good as its live show.” More often than not, this type of commentary is applied when referring to performances by electronic artists and typically in a negative way. Critics love to lambaste the genre for relying too heavily on the aesthetics of a stage show as opposed to a skillfully executed performance, compartmentalizing electronic artists across the board as simply maestros of premeditated setlists that require little to no skill when onstage.

There are also rare moments where bands transcend music in ways that even studio sessions can’t, with live performances that seem almost too good to be true — shows that sound better than remastered albums, that silence even the harshest of opinions and sharpest of critiques centered around the state of live music and today’s recording industry.

Peaking in these instances, are artists like Bob Moses.

Blowing away two capacity crowds in SF last week, Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance, better known as the Canadian electronic duo Bob Moses, stunned their fans at Mezzanine. Serving as only their third show in the Bay Area, the Domino Records artists came in hot off a special guest appearance at Resident Advisor’s first-ever San Francisco, All Day I Dream festival.

Bob Moses

Supported by R. Fentz and Aaron Axelson, who performed a pair of DJ sets to kick things off, Bob Moses took the stage around midnight. Hollow echoes of live percussion beckoned the intimate venue to compact into an amorphous sea of bodies, swaying along to the opening lyrics of their 2015 single “Talk”. Possessing a vocal resonance that seems nearly impossible outside of post production, Howie filled the room with his sultry intonations wafting along the pulsating baselines provided by Vallance.

The venue remained draped in shadows throughout the entire performance, drawing the crowd’s attention to the backlit performers and the syncopated strobe lights they utilized to further punctuate their live drops and shredding solos throughout the scintillating set. Both members of the band displayed their talents as multi-instrumentalists, playing everything from synthesizers to drums, tambourines, modulators, hi-hats and electric guitars. They also compiled a setlist that spanned their entire body of work, further enhanced through extended riffing and live remixes.

For many in attendance, this was their first experience seeing Bob Moses within the context of a venue, with the band having only recently come off the festival circuit to perform on smaller stages and clubs. Scanning the crowd, you could see jaws dropping and hear collective bouts of excitement as the duo steadily fed into Mezzanine’s palpable energy, increasing with the sets gradually rising BPMs. Running through nearly all of their singles, B-sides and two full-length album’s worth of material, the duo concluded their set around last call, leaving the fully immersed crowd yearning for more.

Needless to say, worn-out axioms failed to apply in this scenario. Bob Moses silenced anyone attempting to pass them off as yet another contrived electropop outfit aiming to please the masses. At Mezzanine, both Howie and Vallance proved their prowess as EDM innovators, bringing more to the stage than a couple of laptops and a pretty light show. Surprising those unfamiliar with their work or expecting to be underwhelmed, Bob Moses have elevated the live electronic game for their respective contemporaries and succeeded in defining a new chapter for the genre — an innovative sound standard that’s all their own.

SF Show of the Week // GO4FREE to Classixx (DJ set) at Mezzanine 5/28 (SAT)

ClassixxWritten by Nik Crossman //

Classixx with Satin Jackets, California Casual //
Mezzanine – San Francisco
May 28th, 2016 //

With their influences ranging from old-school R&B to Paul Simon, the DJ duo made up of Kyle Blake and Michael David got their stage name Classixx from a shared appreciation for classic compilations of different music.

These childhood friends from Los Angeles separated after high school when Blake pursued his own music career touring as a bassist while David attended Boston’s Berklee College of Music. In 2005, Blake left his band and David dropped out of school to begin making music together under the moniker Classixx and quickly became a prominent part of LA’s modern electronic movement.

With their blend of disco, funk, house and indie rock, Classixx were a welcomed change from the high-tuned electro sounds that were dominating the EDM scene at the time. Their remixes quickly gained praise from Pitchfork, who wrote how the duo gave Phoenix’s “Lisztomania” a “gorgeously pillowy synth-disco framework,” while the Los Angeles Times called their work “pure disco cotton candy.”

This Saturday, two more electronic music duos — Satin Jackets and California Casual — will set the stage in SF before Classixx share an exceptionally smooth evening of funk, new wave and disco tunes with the audience at Mezzanine. Tickets are available for $25, or you could win a pair of tickets by submitting your full name and email below.

Lucas MacFadden, better known by his stage name Cut Chemist, originally made waves in the Los Angeles hip-hop scene as an avid contributor to Jurassic 5 and through his collaborations with Bay Area instrumental hip-hop/trip-hop producer DJ Shadow in the early 90’s.

In 2006, MacFadden left J5 and released his debut studio album The Audience’s Listening on Warner Bros. Records, with the title track being used for a worldwide Apple TV commercial promoting its iPod nano product.

Building on his solo fame, Cut Chemist supported Shakira during her “Oral Fixation” tour in 2007, wowing crowds with his unique approach while pushing the limits of the audio-visual world. That same year, he made a cameo appearance as a chemistry teacher in the Academy Award-winning movie “Juno” that comically plays off his academic-sounding moniker.

This Friday, Mezzanine will celebrate seven years of MOM DJs with exclusive remixes and originals of your favorite Motown songs while headliner Cut Chemist and opener Alligator Spacewalk hit the decks. Floating Points puts on a performance at Mezzanine that stuns fans both sonically and visually

Floating PointsPhotos by Alister Mori // Written by Brett Ruffenach //

Floating Points with Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids //
Mezzanine – San Francisco
April 29th, 2016 //

With Mezzanine continuing to boast a stacked schedule this spring, Floating Points put on a production bordering on experimental jazz that was unlike anything else that has come to the Bay Area in 2016 so far.

English electronic artist and PhD-educated neuroscientist Sam Sheppard is better known as Floating Points. Working in the ever-bustling British scene, his popularity recently rose after the release of his and Four Tet’s six-hour, back-to-back vinyl DJ set, bringing the renowned Plastic People club in London to a close early last year (a set which was also repeated in SF and ended up being my favorite live show of 2015). Last month, Sheppard kicked off a North American tour in support of his 2015 album Elaena on the West Coast, playing shows all up and down California.

After a great opening performance by Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids, Sheppard’s live band — a quartet featuring him, two guitarists, a bassist and a drummer — made its presence felt. The eclectic audience, which covered more than one generation of concertgoers, packed the room as the lights were turned extremely low. Sheppard then went to work on his keyboard and wall of cables/transistors, filling the room with a gradual wave of sound that swelled in volume and texture before reaching its height as he played “Sillhouettes (I, II, III)”.

Floating Points

As the focused groove of Floating Points’ experimental jazz began to build, the centerpiece of the group’s live production was revealed. An intensely bright laser projected onto the screen that centered between the band, while geometric shapes and patterns were drawn that left a glow-in-the-dark trace.

The band continued building on its rhythms and melodies, creating a hypnotic feeling that was filled with textured synthesizers, guitar pedals and consummate percussion, as laser patterns reflected each rise and fall during its lengthy jam sessions. As Sheppard and his sidekicks progressed through each track, the complexity of the laser projections grew into optical illusions that, almost like another musical instrument onstage, intertwined with the style and progression of the band’s production perfectly. With each song reaching a climax and eventual denouement, the artwork remained untouched for a few minutes so that fans could observe each piece before their very own eyes.

The design and execution of Floating Points’ show was quite impressive, in part because it was clearly arranged to both sonically and visually keep the crowd engaged for the entire 75-minute performance. When each track faded and transitioned into the opening ambient noises of the next, a beautiful geometric design was fully visible before it disappeared, at which point a new design was created. Thus, as each new screen projection was produced layer by layer, so was the song.

Closing with the epic “Peroration Six”, Floating Points exhibited a truly different electronic music experience, bringing new sonic and visual elements that are hard to come by at the moment. While the technology is there for everyone, it takes true talent like Sheppard’s to create an experience like this one. It was truly a night to remember and an artist to watch down the road.

Floating PointsWritten by Nik Crossman //

Floating Points with Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids //
Mezzanine – San Francisco
April 29th, 2016 //

Hailing from the UK, Floating Points (born Sam Shepard) has made a name for himself over the last 10-plus years through his unconventional approach to creating dance music, which remains strongly influenced by his childhood.

The co-founder of Eglo Records grew up singing in the Manchester Cathedral Boys Choir, and his work reflects a strong appreciation for live instrumentation. Consequently, Shepard often resembles a composer more than a traditional electronic producer.

With the release of his debut LP Elaenia late last year, Shepard has solidified his position as a composer by arranging a variety of string and keyboard instruments. Clocking in at more than 42 minutes, the seven-track album takes listeners on a transcendent journey through musical peaks and valleys while appropriately timing the descent.

This Friday, Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids will provide support before Floating Points takes his SF audience at Mezzanine for an aurally empowering ride. Tickets are available for $20, or you could win a pair of tickets by submitting your full name and email below.

Shlohmo takes his SF fans at Mezzanine for a spin

ShlohmoBy Lisette Worster //

Shlohmo with Dj Dials, ChaunceyCC, Marco De La Vega //
Mezzanine – San Francisco
March 26th, 2016 //

Shlohmo’s headlining show in SF last Saturday proved to be an intimate event co-presented by Mezzanine and concert subscription-based app Jukely.

To kick off the night, local DJs ChaunceyCC and Marco de la Vega played back-to-back sets, leading into a hip-hop-fueled performance by Dj Dials before it was Shlohmo’s turn to take the stage.

As soon as Shlohmo (born Henry Laufer) jumped on the decks, the mood shifted to a dark red, much like when we watched him perform his first live band tour in his native Los Angeles last year (see more photos from the show here). With the venue packed from the front to the back, Shlohmo played everything from his original tracks to even some Lil B.

Taking his name from the Nintendo 64 game, Wave Racer (born Tom Purcell) made waves in early 2014 with his effervescent electronic sound, quickly becoming one of the most rotated artists on Australia’s Triple J and a staple for international radio stations like BBC1 and KCRW.

Despite having only been on the scene for two years, Wave Racer has already gained attention from such electronic heavyweights as Diplo, Flume, Madeon and Skrillex for his disco-house flair and aquatic remixes.

Touring with both Disclosure and Chromeo and performing at large-scale festivals like HARD Summer, Dour, Peacock Society, Falls and Mad Decent Boat Party, Wave Racer has made his way around the globe and become well-known for mixing vocal samples with synthesized trumpets and bass-guitar slaps to elevate his soothing, sunrise melodies.

March 20th, 2015 //

Coming from Michigan in 1996, Electric Six (aka E6) played shows early on at The Old Miami and Gold Dollar in Detroit, two local venues that also helped promulgate The White Stripes. Infused with garage, disco, punk, new wave and metal, the amalgamation of Electric Six’s sound is best summarized by their first hit single “Danger! High Voltage”.

It’s been 20 years since Dick Valentine (born Tyler Spencer) brought this group of musical hooligans together under its original moniker The Wildbunch. With 11 full-length albums under their belt and some new band members, Electric Six are no stranger to the spotlight and as their name suggests, commands a live performance worth experiencing.

Back in 2014, the six-piece launched a Kickstarter campaign, successfully raising $65,000 to produce a two-disc compilation entitled Mimicry and Memories, which was comprised of 12 covers, a collection of outtakes and live performances from the past two decades.

With opening support from their friends and collaborators Yip Deceiver, Electric Six will stop in SF this Sunday to take The Independent through a journey of garage rock/new-wave metal. Tickets are available for $18 at the door, or you could win a pair of tickets by submitting your full name and email below.

Growing up in New York City’s Upper East Side, Chris Glover (aka Penguin Prison) embarked on his musical journey early in life. From joining his school’s gospel choir at the age of 10 to fronting a punk band in high school and forming a boy band in college, Glover has never been shy of the spotlight. In 2009, he made a name for himself under the moniker Penguin Prison with his Animal Animal/A Funny Thing EP.

Released in 2015, Penguin Prison’s latest album Lost in New York refers to “a journey that someone is going on who’s trying to find his way, trying to just grow up, become an adult,” and borrows the title from the 1992 comedy film “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”. The last time Penguin Prison came to SF, the one-man pop machine was accompanied by a full band and took a sold-out Independent by storm, proving why he deserves to be in the spotlight.

This Wednesday, Penguin Prison returns to SF to headline Mezzanine after Bay Area nu-disco act Manic opens the show. Tickets are available for $20, or you could win a pair of tickets by submitting your full name and email below.

Contest ends this Wednesday at 3 p.m.

SF Show of the Week // GO4FREE to A-Trak at Mezzanine 1/21 (THUR)

A-TrakWritten by Nik Crossman //

SB50 Collection Launch: A-Trak //
Mezzanine – San Francisco
January 21st, 2015 //

Hailing from Montreal, Alain Macklovitch (aka A-Trak) has more than just Moroccan and Russian ancestry running through his blood. As the younger brother of Chromeo frontman David Macklovitch, A-Trak was the first to win all three coveted DJ competition titles (DMC, ITF and Vestax), and at the age of 15, he shook up the DJ world by becoming the youngest — and the first Canadian — to win the DMC World Championship in 1997.

That’s not all A-Trak did in the 90’s, though. From developing a new notation for scratching to blogging about music innovation and starting a record label with his brother, he developed a variety of skills to make him one of the most sought-after DJs in the early 2000s. More than a decade ago, Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Kanye West recruited A-Trak to be his personal tour DJ, and the two have collaborated closely ever since.

Beyond his countless accolades and magazine cover shots, A-Trak’s long dedication to music innovation has changed the game forever. In 2015, he started a weekly two-hour radio show “Day Off Radio” on the iTunes radio station Beats 1 while continuing to tour the world as one of the industry’s premier DJs.

This Thursday, lifestyle apparel brands Black Scale, Benny Gold and 47 Brand will all come together to present their Super Bowl 50 Collection Launch at Mezzanine, and who better to bring life to the party than A-Trak, the MVP of the DJ world? Tickets are available for $20, or you could win a pair of tickets by submitting your full name and email below.

December 18th, 2015 //

Best known for his hit song “Harlem Shake”, Harry Bauer Rodrigues (aka Baauer) bounced around the world during his adolescent years before his family settled in Connecticut and he began producing dance music at the age of 13. Baauer started making a name for himself in 2012 while remixing well-known artists, from Nero and Flosstradamus to No Doubt and First Aid Kit. After signing with LuckyMe records, he received critical acclaim for “Harlem Shake”, winning “Dance Song of the Year” and “EDM Song of the Year” at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards.

This Friday, Djemba Djemba and DJ Dials will warm up the crowd at Mezzanine before Baauer unleashes his booty-poppin’ builds and drops that we have come to know and love over the past few years. SF Show of the Week // GO4FREE to Rudimental at Mezzanine 10/8 (THUR)

RudimentalWritten by Nik Crossman //

Rudimental with Samo Sound Boy //
Mezzanine – San Francisco
October 8th, 2015 //

Releasing their second album We the Generation last Friday, British drum-and-bass band Rudimental kicked off their North American tour this month and will make their way to Mezzanine in SF this week. After the group’s first album Home debuted at No. 1 on the UK Album Charts and was nominated for a Mercury Prize in 2013, much is to be expected from this platinum-selling quartet.

From humble beginnings surrounding their debut single “Deep in the Valley” to collaborating with English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran on “Bloodstream” this past March, Rudimental continue to prove their validity through the many accolades they’ve garnered over the last four years. Beyond their studio sound, Rudimental’s energetic live show leads the audience through a journey of jubilant drum-and-bass tones. The nature of their sound lends them the opportunity to exploit an exaggerated stage presence and fully engage their fans throughout.

Rudimental will fill Mezzanine with the exultant energy many have come to know and love this Thursday with support from Samo Sound Boy (aka Sam Griesemer). You can buy tickets for $25, or you could win a pair of tickets by submitting your full name and email below.

SF Show of the Week // GO4FREE to Against Me! at Slim’s 9/24 (THUR)

Against Me!Written by Nik Crossman //

Against Me! with Annie Girl and The Flight, Cayetana //
Slim’s – San Francisco
September 24th, 2015 //

Originally a solo project by Laura Jane Grace, Against Me! came out of Gainsville, Fla., in 1997. Performing any live show that would take her, Grace eventually filled her act with lead guitarist James Bowman, drummer Warren Oakes and bassist Andrew Seward. Combining punk, folk and country, the vagabond group added to their perpetual tour of live shows with their flagship full-length album Reinventing Axl Rose in 2002 and received 4.5 out of 5 stars by AllMusic for it.

Since their debut album, Against Me! has released five albums and improved their Billboard 200 placement with each subsequent release. In 2012, Grace dropped her birth name (Thomas James Gabel) and publicly came out as transgender, laying the foundation for their 2014 LP Transgender Dysphoria Blues, which reached No. 23 on the Billboard 200.

This Thursday, Grace and the Against Me! crew will take Slim’s on a journey through nearly 20 years of socially conscious punk, folk and country. Tickets are already sold out, but one lucky person can win a pair of tickets by registering their full name and email below.

SF Show of the Week // GO4FREE to Washed Out (DJ set) at Mezzanine 9/17 (THUR)

Washed OutWritten by Nik Crossman //

TBD Fest Kick-Off PartyWashed Out with Touch Sensitive, Prince Fox //
Mezzanine – San Francisco
September 17th, 2015 //

Born into rural America in the early 80’s, Ernest Greene (aka Washed Out) initially pursued a life of books and research with a Masters of Library and Information Science. Unable to land a job after graduation, Greene moved back in with his parents in Perry, Ga., and began making music in his bedroom. While developing his nostalgic sound, which he later packaged under the moniker Washed Out, Greene also worked on dance-pop songs with a group from South Carolina appropriately named Bedroom.

Introducing his sound as Washed Out in 2009 with the release of his first EP Life of Leisure, Greene received solid feedback from the music community that brought him to perform at Pitchfork Music Festival in 2010. Described as “nostalgic, hypnotic bedroom electro-disco pop”, Washed Out’s unique sound landed him with Sub Pop Records, and his single “Feel It All Around” was picked in 2011 as the theme song for the satirical sketch comedy television series “Portlandia” on IFC.

As a one-man, hypno-pop home-studio producer, Greene plays keyboards, a guitar and a piano before mixing it together on a computer. Without the help of a touring band, Washed Out live performances resemble a DJ set with Greene singing over the top of the music while re-arranging it with live keyboards to keep the tempo up and “make it as fun as possible.”

This Thursday, Greene will bring his chillwave/hipster sound to Mezzanine for TBD Fest Kick-Off Party presented by Beautiful Buzzz with Touch Sensitive and Prince Fox providing support. You can buy tickets for $25, or you could win a pair of tickets by registering your full name and email below.

TensnakeWritten by Nik Crossman //

Tensnake with Plastic Plates, Slaptop, The Split //
The Mezzanine – San Francisco
September 11th, 2015 //

Marco Niemerski, better known by his stage name Tensnake, emerged from the disco-ball spotlight in 2010 with his hit single “Coma Cat”, which has since appeared in more than 50 compilations. Born in Hamburg circa 1975, the sounds of disco, boogie, soul, funk and of course 80’s pop all contribute to the groovy reverberations of this German DJ and producer.

In 2014, still celebrating the success of “Coma Cat”, Tensnake released his debut full-length album Glow featuring collaborations with Fiora, Jacques Lu Cont, MNEK and Nile Rodgers, among others. The album received favorable reviews, especially for the choice to include Fiora in almost half of its tracks.

This Friday, Niemerski will bring his luscious 80’s disco hooks to SF’s Mezzanine with Plastic Plates, Slaptop and The Split providing support. You can buy tickets for $25, or you could win a pair of tickets by registering your full name and email below.
